In the first two years, students take the same compulsory courses as those taken by students in the other four departments: the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Probability and Statistics, the Department of Informatics, and the Department of Financial Mathematics. In the remaining two years, students should take professional courses designed specially for this major. More Specifically, they should take the two courses Numerical Algebra and Numerical Analysis, and choose at least five of the seven courses: Functions of Real Variables, Functional Analysis, Optimization Methods, Partial Differential Equations, Numerical Partial Differential Equations, and Algorithms for Big Data Analysis. In addition, they need take other courses according to the rules of PKU. Finally, students can apply for the bachelor of science degrees with required credits and qualified dissertations. About 20-30 students get their bachelor degrees from this discipline every year.
